LET’S MOVE A MILLION MILES FOR CHARITY
April 20, 2023 @ 3:30 pm - 5:00 pm
On Thursday 20th April a Showcase Event to launch our exciting community challenge will take place at the Three Hills Sports Park, Cheriton Road, Folkestone at 3.30pm. We would be delighted if you could join us.
The Let’s Move a Million Miles for Charity Challenge, which will run until the end of September, aims to promote physical health and mental wellbeing, encourage local people to get involved in helping their community and raise money for charity.
There are four charities benefitting from the initiative:
- Mind (mental health)
- The Rainbow Centre (homelessness)
- The Sports Trust (disabled sport)
- The Channel Rotary Kindness Fund (disadvantaged young people)
The campaign’s vision is to accumulate up to one million miles of activity, with the goal of securing at least £1 of sponsorship per mile.
The ethos of the campaign is:
Together, let’s get active, have fun, and move a million miles!
It aims to encourage and empower members of the public, whatever their age, to challenge themselves to raise funds through activity of any kind, from running a marathon to climbing stairs; from rowing the equivalent of the channel to walking to school; from roller skating to playing golf. Already a blind bagpipes player has volunteered to walk a mile while playing and a young volunteer intends to walk for 24 hours; a group from Saga will take on the Folkestone 10k run and Sandgate Primary pupils plan to achieve miles on a static bike.
The campaign is ambitious, inclusive, and compassionate. It doesn’t matter what the activity is, how mobile you are or how much you raise – every activity and amount raised will go to a good cause!
This press release comes from Folkestone Channel Rotary who are leading the event, but many different stakeholders and volunteers are involved from across the region.
