Home Office To Create New Immigration HQ
26th May 2006
More than 1,000 staff will be needed to help run a new immigration and
nationality centre planned for east Kent.
Plans have been approved to build the Home Office immigration headquarters at
Shearway Business Park in Folkestone.
Shepway District Council said work on the 55,000 square foot centre, by
developer Madison Land, was due to be completed by mid 2007.
South East England Development Agency (SEEDA) said it was "a major boost for
Folkestone"
"To get employers such as the Home Office to choose Shearway as a base for their
staff shows just how popular a location Folkestone is becoming," said SEEDA
spokesman, Nick Marston.
The business park is currently home to around 30 businesses including
Bannatyne's Fitness Centre, Premier Occupational Healthcare, Basepoint, and
Priority Sites.
"Folkestone is clearly becoming an attractive business location with well
located business parks and good transport networks," said councillor Linda
Cufley, cabinet member for regeneration.
