9 amazing days of events, talks, debates and kids activities.
Peter Florence, Director of The Guardian Hay Festival and I are busy inviting a
host of key literary figures from around the country to Folkestone to tantalise
and entertain you in what promises to be the best festival ever.
Come and enjoy the Book Fair on Sat 3rd November and meet local and national
authors and delight in a selection of handpicked talks, poetry and performance
sessions. The air will be tingling with comment, caricature and friendly banter.
This year the festival will see a larger and more diverse range of events.
Building on last year’s success, we are pleased to welcome former Children’s’
Laureate Michael Morpurgo and Guardian critic Lyn Gardner who will host our free
schools literary event. In addition, we are working with Waterstones and BBC
Kent to plan a fun-packed Family Day. There will also be reading sessions for
nursery aged children throughout the week and bespoke sessions with writers such
as Colin Foreman, author of ‘Keepers and Seekers’, for the Café IT crew.
Teachers wishing to book free tickets for our schools event with Michael
Morpurgo & Lyn Gardner should call Lauren immediately on 01303 245 799. Tickets
are booking fast.
Why not join us for the 2007 festival read ‘Uncle Tom’s Cabin’ (Wordsworth
Edition)? We will leave a few copies around town to read and share. If you would
like your own copy this version costs just £2.00 new and is available at
Waterstones. We are thrilled to announce that Keith Carrabine, who wrote the
preface, will be joining us to discuss the book.
Did you know that Friends of the Festival receive priority advance booking
before the Festival goes on sale to the general public, and they also have a
special preview evening with the Director? Don’t miss out, join up at
