CD Review
Playing in Rock Pools by Cultured Pearl (£5 only available
at gigs)
This week I have been listening to a collection of cover versions, and 1
original track recorded by local duo Cultured Pearl. Their laid back style is a
perfect accompaniment to Sunday morning coffee, croissants and newspapers.
Musically, this is a mixture of folk, blues and Americana with tracks ranging
from a soulful version of “Norwegian Wood” to a blistering slide influenced
cover of Dylan’s “Crash on the Levy”. The CD was recorded in one take in East
Kent and although the packaging could be more professional, at £5 I found this
to be great value.
Cultured Pearl consists of Folkestone residents Paul Brisley, lead vocals and
rhythm guitar and Nick Esson, lead guitar and backing vocals. Forthcoming gigs:
The Star Inn, Dymchurch - Sat 8th March; The Railway Bell, Folkestone - Fri 14th
March; Sat 15th March - The Lord Clyde, Deal; Fri 28th March - The Black Bull,
Folkestone; Sun 30th March - The Stag, Deal.
