Editorial

The news of an agreement between Jimmy Godden, Roger De Haan and the Folkestone Estate to consolidate the land on the seafront brings the possibility of a development along the lines of the Foster and Partners Masterplan closer. They should all be congratulated. Few will mourn the loss of the Trent Development. The complete statement setting out the current position is reproduced in this issue.

Congratulations should also go to Folkestone Town Council, which has recently received Quality Council Status after only two years. The Council joins the top three percent of the country’s 9,000 local councils. I am extremely proud to have worked with all our independent Councillors, who have made the good of Folkestone their priority throughout this time. Go Folkestone has achieved what it set out to do: to get our Town Council back, and a quality one at that!

In this issue you will find an article on the Literary Festival together with the names of the winners of the short story competition. There are details of 'Poets Go Wild', a Poetry Competition, which sounds like fun if you care to enter. There is also an historical article on Marrins bookshop as well as an update on the Youth Project which was one of Go Folkestone’s earliest projects, thought up by John Burge and his team with Philip Carter and Terry Begent and the rest of the Trustees (see inside for details).

We are always looking for ideas, articles or letters for this magazine and would especially like to start up a letters page. We look forward to hearing from you. Do write, phone or e-mail.
