In the current environment of proposed growth and
regeneration, it is clear that Art and Culture are no longer a luxury but a
key element of regeneration. Martin will talk about the role of Art and
Culture in regeneration and how it contributes to successful economic
development. Martin will also discuss the role the Folkestone Enterprise
Gateway and its work and about some of the pillars and principles required
for economic development.
About our speaker:
Martin Roche, Director, Folkestone Enterprise Gateway
Martin moved to Kent, with his family, in 2002 and was the founding director
of Folkestone Enterprise Gateway in April 2005.
Martin Roche has over 25 years experience in economic development, as a
practitioner, adviser and writer. He spent 15 years with Chime
Communications plc, most as a senior brand and communications strategist at
the centre of group client services, and sat on the boards of 5 Chime group
companies, in public relations, public affairs and advertising and on the
groups' international board. He has advised development agencies in the UK
and overseas, including the Welsh Development Agency, The Welsh Office,
London Docklands Development Corporation, Glasgow City Council, Cardiff and
Swansea city councils and the governments of Guernsey, Malta and Sweden. He
has extensive knowledge of the financial services sector where his clients
have included leading investment banks, insurance companies, advisory firms
and regulators.
When he first moved to London he was director of the London office of the
Scottish new town development corporations and before that worked with
Borders Regional Council. He has run four businesses of his own and
continues to act in a private capacity for a number of overseas clients.
Originally a journalist, as a mature student he took an MA in politics and
international relations at Aberdeen University, specialising in post-war UK
economic development policy.
He is a Member of the Marketing Society and the Institute of Public
Relations.
