Women of the World Festival

At Folkestone Quarterhouse
Tuesday 8th – Saturday 12th March, 2016

This is the fourth year of marking International Women’s Day in Folkestone. The WOW Festival is a partnership between Folkestone Fringe, Quarterhouse and South Bank, London.
The WOW week is for everyone. It’s a packed week, with getting on for thirty events in Folkestone that celebrate the amazing achievements of women and girls. It looks at the most potent topics for women today.
The WOW Festival in Folkestone starts on Tuesday 8th March at 6.45 pm with a celebration of International Women’s Day at the WOW Launch Party. This will be held in the bar at Quarterhouse. Entry is free. There will be drinks and an introduction to the festival. In addition, there will be short performances from Older Women Rock, highlighting the poetic voices of women in their 60’s.
The Festival will feature voices from around the world, and stories from local residents. There will be live performances, participatory workshops, discussions and live music. These will explore subjects such as women in war, the beauty industry, ageing, men’s role in ending sexism, and how we might correct the under-representation of women in all areas of life, from the school curriculum to women’s place in government. The events are frequently theme-linked, so you can either take a pick and mix approach, or follow topics of special interest across different art forms.
